In my future career I will face a lot of situations that would deal with ethics and morals. For example having my piercings may offend some clients as well as having tattoo's. Although it wouldn't bug everyone but most of the elderly people. This is because they are not used to these types of things. Also with the way I dress may effect the way people think of me. With the career I am going into doesn't make me wear a certain uniform. As being an Interior Designer of my own business hopefully, I will be able to wear what I want. With doing this when I am older I would voice my opinion oh what I think looks good and what doesn't. This could make some people upset due to the fact that they have their own personal style. It is important to have these morals because I am not going to change all that much for people to like who I am. To me, it is more important to have a job that I like instead of money. I would rather be happy then make a lot of money. Money doesn't make happiness and doing what I like will make me happy. I will know when I am successful by people talking about me on how well I am doing my job and that they like my work.

If i were to escape for a couple days like how Holden did, I would go to the country where I used to live. Its out in newtonville at my dads house. There is a lot to do there. It is also the place where I grew up. Being there reminds me of when i was younger. Just like how some of the things Holden does when he is in New York. The nice this is, it wouldn't cost me any money but the gas just to get there. I could go on walks through the forest or go four wheeling and if it was winter I could go sledding or go snowmobiling. Doing this and being away from everyone and just having time to myself would be good for me and be able to get away from things that stress me out. By doing this I would be enjoying my self with the things I like to do. If I could I would move back out there instead of being in newcastle because its a lot more peaceful and also there is a lot to do there without having to spend a lot of money, which is nice because with the way things are going in the world people dont have that much money to do things that they can enjoy and like doing.

I think the character that is the most genuine/ true to them self is Holden. Holden cares about his family especially Phoebe. Even though he calls mostly everyone phoney including Jane, he still cares for them. Holden doesn't want Phoebe to ever be mad at him or anything like that it seems. Towards the end of the book you can somewhat tell that Holden feels bad for Ackely and doesn't mind him so much even though he thinks he is really annoying.
Igby isn't such a genuine person because he doesn't really care for anyone else but himself. At the end of the movie when his mother dies he doesn't even show up to the funeral. Instead of going he leaves to be on his own. Throughout the movie he doesn't get along with any family member and doesn't like his brother at all, but when he is leaving he does give him a hug. Also, when his mom was dead laying on the bed he went up and layed on the bed and just started hitting her to take out his anger on her. It seems that he blames everything on her. Also in the movie he is shown get beat up by his god father or something, but who turns out to be his father. This shows that he cant even get along with one person, even someone who is trying to help him through his life.
So in the end, I think Holden is more genuine because he is a more caring person towards other people.

What does it mean to be phony, according to Holden? Is Holden himself guilty of being a phony? Explain.
What does it mean to be phony, according to Holden? Is Holden himself guilty of being a phony? Explain.
Holden is very judgemental about everything and everyone. To be phony it means that you are fake, that you don't act like yourself. A lot of people in this book, Holden refers to as phony. The girl he likes; Jane Gallagher is someone that he even calls phony. The only person he doesn't call phony in this book is his sister Phoebe. He really likes his little sister and can pretty much tell anything to. He also doesn't call his brother Allie phony, but he is not alive in this book.
In a sense Holden is being phony in this book because he doesn't act like himself around peoples parents that their kids go to his school. He always seems to tell the parents that their child is a very nice kid and that he gets along with them very well some of the time. But really he doesn't like their child at all and he doesn't want to say anything to them about what he really thinks because he wants them to like him.

Is it possible to protect everything that matters to you.
Is it possible to protect everything that matters to you...
With one person there are many things that would matter a lot to you. I think it would be difficult to be able to protect every little thing, but you can and will always try. Holden really likes Jane Gallagher and trys to figure out what her and Stradlater did when they went out. Stradlater wouldn't tell him what they did it makes Holden worried. He keeps asking Stradlater what they did, but he never answers. If you cant completely protect something then you can always just look out for that person or whatever is it. If its something or someone that matters a lot to them you will do what ever you can to make sure they are alright. Holden has a baseball glove from his brother, the one he used to use when he played baseball with. The glove is something that is important to him because its from the brother that passed away(Allie). Holden always has it where he goes, not like everywhere but its always comes with him if hes moving around like going to different schools. He wrote Stradlaters paper on it cause it is something that he can talk about and be descriptive about.

Be true to yourself.
To me, when someone says "be true to yourself" I think you would have to be loyal to yourself everyone else around you. Being true to yourself is going to make your life better for you and for the people around you. Always thing positively and believe in yourself. Never be afraid to be to accept yourself and who are you are. Being true to yourself means to act in accordance with who you are and what you believe. We must all be true to ourselves. If we are not true to ourselves we cannot be true to others. Also by living your life to the fullest you will be able to be true to yourself. Always be yourself, even if it means that someone wont accept you for who you are. If someone doesn't accept you for who you are then really there is no point in waisting your own time trying to be someone else just to make them happy. They are not a good of a friend if they wont accept you for who you are. Do anything that makes you happy and not someone else.
“Above all, be true to yourself, and if you cannot put your heart in it, take yourself out of it.”
